This is from a great article I found in a blog. The writer was a social-nerd and introvert. He picked up this skill to help him, and until the moment still use it to open up conversations, give people a lift, while raising his self esteem. The skill is about how to give a good compliment. I read this and just realize “wow, he wasn’t much different from me. I can use his tips too!”
- Make your compliment specific. The more specific is the better because you make the person feel like you notice and care. Be specific about what you are complimenting.
- Back up your compliment with a reason. If you just stop, it will probably not sound like a sincere one.
- Ask a question. Ask, for example, about where he/she get the things you’re complimenting. This will really start a conversation and you just need to let it flow.
