Hajime no Ippo

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Boxing enthusiast will have fun watching this anime. Hajime no Ippo focuses on the quest of its main character, Ippo, who is a very humble student who packs a huge punch. We see his transformation as he applies himself in life and in his boxing training.

The shows progression is good for the boxers Ippo, his friends and his opponents get stronger and all of the characters develop not just in boxing also in their personality. The show uses the routine of a boxer, training, fighting, and reflecting for each of the matches that Ippo and his friends fight in.

While the animation and character design could put down the show, it strengthen the shows appeal by making almost every episode action packed. Also the show keeps a good pacing of events. Additionally the show is not a serious one, it is full of comedy as Ippo goes through normal life.

The animation is maybe out of date but it is over shadowed by the amount of fighting and the good spirited funny scenes.

Honey and Clover

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Honey and Clover is an interesting anime combining the genres, slice of life, romance and comedy. It started off predictably enough with an introduction to all the main characters. You might think that this is another run-of-the-mill love story in school type of anime, but it differentiates a lot due to the fact that this anime specifies the type of school they have, an art school.

Story-wise, there is a nice, slow build up even though at times it felt like it was going nowhere. It has a very strong plot and a story line that won’t leave you confused.
Characters are multi-layered and enjoyable to watch. They all have a serious and humorous side.

The Proposal

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Margaret played by Sandra Bullock, known as the “Witch” for she terrorizes her underlings, fires the man who was taking her job and orders Andrew [Ryan Reynolds] her assistant to marry her. This movie start out with a couple hating each other and ending up liking one another.

This all started when Margaret a Canadian, in danger of being deported out of the country, figures she can get her green card if she married. But slowly as the movie progress Margaret and Andrew will start to warm up to each other.

Bullock’s portrayal of an office witch is not like Meryll Streep’s character in the “The Devil Wears Prada”. She’s a tad brighter character than that.

The Proposal recycles a plot and story that is already old, but it’s different take on it makes it a fun movie to watch.
