The life threatening job

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Jeff Harvey, an Executive Vice-President, writes about driver’s safety in an article. Truck driver is apparently the most life-threatening job in the nation, as reported by Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). What a sad fact since it’s a risky job but with low pay. Drivers experience fatal injuries that accounted for 12% of all workers deaths, and even the nonfatal injuries are higher than any other job. Jeff Harvey implies that employer should pay more attention to their drivers’ safety, in any field of business. Drivers should be encouraged to use seat belt, drive within the speed limit, and not to drive aggressively. Employers can also put an active vehicle management system that will alert drivers to follow the “rules” of driving. These prevention actions would actually reduce company’s cost. How to influence decision-makers

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

This is an article about how you can affect decision-makers to adopt your ideas, and so making it useful for your career and organization. The article is written by Marshall Goldsmith. Modern organizations now have knowledge workers, those who know more about what they are doing than their managers do. In concern to this, Mr. Goldsmith make a list of 11 guidelines to help you influenced decision-makers better to use your idea. They are not always upper –level managers, but can also be colleagues. I think this is very great since we sometimes do have great ides to share, but the potency is limited by ‘chance’ or our ‘selling’ strategy. If we are sure that it is worth of, than be confident to show it off. Read the guidelines from Marshall Goldsmith at this page and be prepared for a promotion.
