Islamic insurgents have been fighting with the U.N. backed, weak government for more than two years now. Witnesses say that there were heavy gun fights overnight between the two forces and at least 17 were killed.
In Northern Mogadishu, the government and the insurgents fought each other with mortars. And the fighting kill at least 12 people.
While in Southern Mogadishu, witnesses says that the insurgents attacked the soldiers. Then the soldiers fought back by shelling a market which resulted to at least five deaths.
