The greenest city in China

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

The greenest city in China, Dongtan (which is located near Shanghai), will have its first condos and commercial space for sale in the market by 2010. A bridge and tunnel to get residents to Shanghai airport and financial district will also be built. By 2050, the city is estimated to be populated by 500,000 residents. The city’s build will also be used to test the theory that it can get greener as it develops. Feel like a dream? I hope the theory will be proven so that many cities can follow and learn from China. I don’t know how it will be, but China must be really great if they can keep the city green while providing a place for so many people to live. Read the article here. You can also see some pictures of the city at current condition.

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

The cinema now meets the old and new design both in a place, to keep the big name remembered by many people and to accommodate modern audiences. The cinema also has some plus points, which I guess are used for selling historical value as marketing tool, such as they display the historical photos of the former building. The building and features are now luxurious. If you are visiting China, particularly Shanghai, maybe you can visit the cinema to document. Make sure you read article before. Read here.

This is an article in Businessweek, presented by Emily Schmitt, that lists 25 best independent stores in America as profiled by George Whalin. They are valued from some aspects such as: great location, profitability, fantastic selection, and competitive prices. That is not all things counted, the stores have to be in business for at least 25 years, be profitable, and have something to distinguish them from competitors. Mr. Whalin has also visited hundreds of retailers across America for 20 years to find that best stores have similar practice to each other. They have customer engagement, a big value. Yunnan’s Redlands

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Yunnan means ”South of the Clouds”, a land that has rich water and sienna red soil. It is one of the few regions in China where you can really feel the moisture re-hydrating you. As what I read in an article, this fertile red earth also has dense flora, amazing waterfall, stone forest and valleys. You can see many imaginative formation of stone in the forest, such as: rampant bears, sleeping bears, Versailles, peacocks, medieval masonry, and sclaed-down Great Wall. Yunna has three historical towns: Shiyang, Lijiang, and Dali. The less traveled is Shiyang, a town where people still make salt traditionally. These red lands are extremely beautiful, as the pictures presented and described in the article. I’m sure you will start imagining after reading it. Read here.
