Kaká scored a penalty kick to give Brazil 4-3 lead and victory after an Egyptian player got a red card for stopping a shot with his arm last monday. On thursday with a 3-0 win over the Americans, Kaká led a furious counterattack, which led to a fantastic goal.

Real Madrid bought Kaká for $92 million from A.C. Milan this month.

Landon Donovan, United States team’s captain, said that Kaká is a fantastic player and he does a great job of just moving the ball and keeping things going. And then when he sees an opportunity he takes advantage of it by giving a great pass or scoring a goal himself.

Monkey D. Luffy. A boy with a huge aspiration to become the Pirate King. Luffy has eaten the “devil’s fruit” which is known to give mystical powers or oddities in his case, a rubbery body.

The series follows Luffy on his journeys toward his ambitious goal as he meets new people and crew mates on the way some becoming friends some mortal rivals to the title. With so many characters in the series, it gives everyone a favorite due to their unique personal looks and humorously funny personalities.

The animation is maybe out of date but it is over shadowed by the amount of fighting and the good spirited funny scenes.

Honey and Clover

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Honey and Clover is an interesting anime combining the genres, slice of life, romance and comedy. It started off predictably enough with an introduction to all the main characters. You might think that this is another run-of-the-mill love story in school type of anime, but it differentiates a lot due to the fact that this anime specifies the type of school they have, an art school.

Story-wise, there is a nice, slow build up even though at times it felt like it was going nowhere. It has a very strong plot and a story line that won’t leave you confused.
Characters are multi-layered and enjoyable to watch. They all have a serious and humorous side.

The Dragon Boat Festival

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I read an article about Dragon Boat Festival in China, which particularly focuses on the way of celebrating the festival nowadays. As written in the article, with mandatory holiday, dragon boat racing, and sticky rice, this obviously shows that the festival is now a business. People have lost the real meaning in Dragn Boat Festival. The boats should have represented the villagers frantic attempt to save a noble patriot, while the splashing paddles and beating drums are actually meant to scare the fish so that they don’t eat the idealistic corpse of died patriot. Rice is also thrown in the river as an attempt to scare the fish. Now the festivals aren’t really communicating that history and culture anymore. Read the article for more information about Dragon Boat Festival: the history, culture, deviation, current condition, and some great photographs. Read here.

What hunger means for Americans

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

This article talks about the meaning of hunger for Americans. The result indicated that many Americans associated hunger with a condition of insecurity whether there will be food or not to be eaten tomorrow. Those were answers from median perception of the least severe condition of respondents. The study, however, has not defined any narrow consensus on the appropriate term of hunger. I still find this article interesting anyway because it shows how different people have different perception about hunger. I myself defined hunger as not being able to afford enough meal. You might have other different perception. If the study were done in your area, the median result might have been different. That’s the point. Read more about the article here.

The traditional Chinese marriage

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I found a great article that discusses the ancient Chinese marriage. We know from movies that the marriage is so complicated and traditional: many rules and details to be followed. Just not so long ago, the process was still following the six general categories that had been held for ages. Now it is much easier. The brides and grooms can hand all the “modern” responsibilities to wedding organizers or even family members they trust. There are no more complicated rules. All they need to finish personally might be only for motorcade choice, gowns, and photographer. See how such big culture could change in years. I suggest you read the article if you are interested in history, culture, and traditional marriage. Read here.

Pu’er tea as commodity

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

This article talks about Pu’er tea, a tea that gets better with age. More than 10 years ago, the product of old-aged Pu’er tea could be bought in China in form of cake, tapestry, etc for below 100 RMB. There had been a recent crash in this commodity until it started to get some ride since 2003, and today it still cost between 1500 and 3000 RMB. There was a lack of appreciation in former prices. Now this tea is known as a viable commodity that could give much more long-term return than any conventional financial products. The finely-aged attributes of Pu’er has made it a perfect commodity. The supply is always limited because of the little production, this helps it becoming a safe and good commodity investment. Read the article here to find more information about this tea.

Beijing Planning Exhibition Centre

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I read in article that Beijing has a big modern facility called Beijing Planning Exhibition Center. Since Beijing is predicted to face a big challenge with the rampant growth and environment degradation, the city has to settle with the problem of transportation to waste-water management. The facility itself is a modern three-story building featuring all sorts of high tech displays. Each of the floors has a massive aerial and model recreation of greater Beijing in coming years, showing all the detail buildings, homes, or whatever across the city including the infrastructure. Every little thing such as railway, air pollution, highways, subway lines, tunnel, etc has been included in the modeling. What a great planning ahead! Look at the photographs, you will be amazed of the built models. Read here.
